Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about DSS products and support.

General Questions

Who is DSS? +

Dalloway Software Solutions is the digital engineering division of Dalloway Precision Engineering Ltd, a CNC machine shop based in the West Midlands. We build software by people who actually work in machine shops, not by people who have never seen a coolant mist.

How is DSS different from generic software? +

Generic business software (Salesforce, NetSuite, etc.) is built for offices. They don't understand shift work, CNC machines, tooling, or the realities of a shop floor. Every DSS product is built specifically for machine shop workflows.

What size shop is DSS designed for? +

Our products are designed for shops between 5 and 50 people. If you're a solo operation, some products might be overkill. If you're 200+ people, you might need enterprise-grade systems. But for the typical UK CNC job shop, we're built for you.

Pricing & Contracts

Do you charge per quote or per transaction? +

No. We charge a fixed monthly fee for all products. You could generate 10 quotes a month or 1,000—the fee stays the same. No per-transaction charges, no hidden fees.

What's your refund policy? +

We don't do month-to-month refunds, but you can cancel your subscription at any time with no penalty. If there's a genuine problem with the product, contact us—we'll work it out.

Do you offer volume or multi-product discounts? +

Yes. If you're using 2+ products, contact us for bundle pricing. We can usually save you 15–20% on combined subscriptions.

Can I trial a product before committing? +

Yes. Contact us and we'll set up a trial with sample data. For quoting and CRM, typical trials are 2 weeks. For AI Lead Finder, you'll see leads within the first week.

Technical & Integration

Does DSS integrate with my accounting software? +

We currently support Xero, QuickBooks, and Sage. If you use something else, contact us—we may have built an integration, or we can scope a custom one.

Can I run DSS on-premise or is it cloud-only? +

Most DSS products are cloud-hosted for simplicity and reliability. But if you have security or network requirements that demand on-premise hosting, contact us. We can arrange it for enterprise customers.

What CAM software do you support? +

The AI Quoting Engine accepts STEP files and PDF drawings, so it works with any CAM system that can export those formats. If your CAM system is legacy and exports proprietary formats, we can build a custom integration.

Is my data secure? +

Yes. All DSS data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We use industry-standard security practices and regular third-party audits. For sensitive data, we can arrange SOC 2 compliance if required.

Support & Onboarding

Do you provide training? +

Yes. All products include onboarding training. For Shop Floor HR & Time and CRM, we include setup calls to configure your exact workflows before you go live.

What happens if I have a question or problem? +

Email us at morgan@dalloways.com. We aim to respond within 24 hours. For urgent issues, include "URGENT" in the subject line.

Do you have a service level agreement (SLA)? +

For subscription products, we commit to 99.5% uptime. For Critical issues affecting production, we prioritise response. For enterprise customers with custom software, we can negotiate formal SLAs.

How often do you release updates? +

We release product updates every 2–3 weeks. Security patches are deployed immediately. You'll always be on the latest version—no manual upgrades needed.

Custom Development

How much does custom development cost? +

Typical custom projects range from £2,500 (small integrations) to £20,000+ (complex systems). Every project is scoped individually based on complexity. We can offer fixed-price or hourly options.

How long does a custom project take? +

Small integrations: 2–4 weeks. Medium projects: 6–8 weeks. Large systems: 3–6 months. We deliver in increments so you see working software early, not a big bang at the end.
